Our client, a leading corporate organisation based in London, is seeking an experienced Head of Public Policy to join their senior leadership team. This is a high-profile opportunity to shape policy strategy and government relations for a major corporate brand whilst influencing key regulatory and legislative developments.
The Role
As Head of Public Policy, you will lead the organisation's engagement with government, regulators, and key stakeholders, developing comprehensive policy strategies that support business objectives. You will represent the company at the highest levels of government and industry, whilst building and maintaining critical relationships across Westminster, Whitehall, and Brussels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement comprehensive public policy strategies aligned with corporate objectives
- Lead government relations activities and manage relationships with MPs, civil servants, and regulators
- Monitor and analyse policy developments, legislation, and regulatory changes
- Represent the company in parliamentary proceedings, select committees, and government consultations
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with trade associations, think tanks, and industry bodies
- Manage crisis communications with government and regulatory authorities
- Lead stakeholder engagement programmes with key political and regulatory figures
- Oversee policy research and provide strategic analysis to the executive team
- Coordinate with legal, compliance, and communications teams on policy matters
- Manage external public affairs consultancies and government relations agencies
- Drive thought leadership initiatives and contribute to policy debates
- Support international policy coordination with global offices
The Candidate
We are seeking a senior public policy professional with extensive government relations experience and proven ability to operate at the highest levels of corporate and political engagement.
Essential Requirements:
- Minimum 8-10 years' experience in public policy, government relations, or regulatory affairs
- Proven track record working with UK government departments and regulatory bodies
- Strong existing relationships within Westminster, Whitehall, and relevant regulatory agencies
- Experience developing and implementing corporate policy strategies
- Excellent understanding of UK political system, legislative processes, and regulatory frameworks
- Outstanding communication and negotiation skills
- Experience managing senior stakeholder relationships and representing organisations publicly
- Degree in relevant field (Politics, Law, Economics, Public Policy, or related)
- Proven ability to translate complex policy issues into business strategy
- Experience managing teams and external advisors
Highly Desirable:
- Previous experience in government, civil service, or political roles
- Brussels/EU policy experience and understanding of international regulatory frameworks
- Industry-specific regulatory knowledge relevant to the sector
- Advanced degree in Public Policy, Law, or related field
- Think tank or policy institute experience
- Professional qualifications in public affairs or government relations
- Board-level presentation experience
