This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone at the start or early stages of their career in public affairs or political consultancy, eager to develop their skills in stakeholder engagement, research, and policy analysis.
You will join a busy and supportive team delivering high-quality political advice and engagement strategies for a diverse range of clients across sectors including energy, infrastructure, technology, and health.
The Role
As an External Affairs Officer, you will support the delivery of public affairs campaigns and stakeholder engagement activities. You will conduct political research, monitor parliamentary and government developments, and assist in preparing briefings, reports, and communications.
This is a hands-on role offering exposure to senior clients and policymakers, ideal for someone with a keen interest in politics and policy who is looking to build a career in public affairs.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor parliamentary business, government announcements, and relevant political developments
- Prepare concise and insightful briefings, reports, and stakeholder maps
- Support the development and delivery of stakeholder engagement and advocacy campaigns
- Assist in drafting client reports, presentations, and communications materials
- Maintain and update contact databases and political networks
- Support the organisation of events, meetings, and consultations with stakeholders
- Conduct research on policy issues and political environments
- Collaborate with team members to ensure timely and effective client service
- Help identify new opportunities to add value to clients’ public affairs strategies
Person Specification
Essential Experience & Skills
- Some experience or internships in public affairs, political research, communications, or a related field
- Strong interest in UK politics, government, and policy-making processes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
- Good organisational and time-management abilities, capable of handling multiple tasks
- Ability to analyse political information and present it clearly
- Proactive, enthusiastic, and willing to learn in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team
- Competent with Microsoft Office and comfortable using digital tools for research and communication
Desirable Attributes
- Degree or relevant qualification in politics, public policy, international relations, or a related discipline
- Experience using political monitoring tools or databases
- Knowledge of one or more sectors such as energy, health, tech, or infrastructure
- Previous experience supporting campaigns or events
- Basic understanding of media and social media landscapes
