They are looking for a proactive communicator who can craft compelling narratives, engage diverse audiences, and play a pivotal role in delivering strategic communications.
The Role
As Communications Manager, you will be responsible for planning and delivering a wide range of external communications to support the organisation’s mission, campaigns, and influence. Working closely with the Head of Communications, senior leadership, and colleagues across the organisation, you’ll ensure that key messages reach the right audiences through the right channels.
This is a broad and rewarding role that combines media relations, content creation, digital engagement, and strategic communications. You will be both a skilled writer and confident spokesperson, able to distil complex policy into clear, accessible messages that resonate across sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver communications plans for major announcements, publications, and campaigns.
- Create high-quality written content for press releases, op-eds, newsletters, reports, blogs, and website pages.
- Manage media relationships, including drafting pitches, responding to enquiries, and securing proactive coverage.
- Support senior staff with messaging, briefings, and media preparation.
- Lead on digital communications, including managing social media channels and supporting website content and functionality.
- Maintain a consistent tone of voice and brand identity across all platforms and communications.
- Monitor media coverage and digital engagement, reporting on reach and impact.
- Support internal communications and contribute to building a positive organisational culture.
- Line manage junior communications staff or freelancers, where appropriate.
- Contribute to crisis communications and reputational risk management, as needed.
Person Specification
Essential Experience & Skills
- Significant experience in a communications role, ideally in a charity, think tank, or advocacy environment.
- Excellent written communication skills, with a proven ability to write for a range of audiences and formats.
- Demonstrable experience of working with media, including drafting press releases and liaising with journalists.
- Strong knowledge of digital and social media platforms, including content creation and audience engagement.
- Ability to translate complex information into engaging and accessible communications.
- Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- A collaborative approach to working with colleagues, stakeholders, and external partners.
- Familiarity with the UK media and policy environment.
Desirable Attributes
- Experience using content management systems (e.g. WordPress), email marketing tools, and design software (e.g. Canva, Adobe).
- Knowledge of communications strategy and campaign planning.
- Experience working in a values-led organisation or on social justice issues.
