The Role
As an Associate Director, you will play a central role in managing and growing key client accounts, delivering high-quality strategic advice, and developing compelling political engagement strategies. You will act as a trusted adviser to clients, guide internal teams, and support the leadership in growing the agency’s profile and commercial success.
The role suits someone with deep political knowledge, proven consultancy experience, and the credibility to lead on complex and high-profile issues. You will be responsible for shaping strategy, maintaining senior-level client relationships, and contributing to new business development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on strategy, delivery, and quality assurance across major client accounts
- Provide senior-level political counsel and strategic advice to clients across a range of sectors
- Manage and mentor junior and mid-level colleagues, ensuring a high standard of delivery and professional development
- Build and maintain strong relationships with parliamentarians, government officials, and other stakeholders
- Monitor and interpret political developments, providing timely insight and strategic guidance
- Contribute to thought leadership, commentary, and content to support the agency’s external profile
- Support the development of new business proposals, pitches, and client acquisition strategies
- Work closely with the senior leadership team to shape the agency’s direction and culture
- Represent the agency at events, briefings, and industry forums
Person Specification
Essential Experience & Skills
- Significant experience in public affairs, political consultancy, or a related political environment
- Strong track record of leading client accounts or policy campaigns in an agency or consultancy setting
- Excellent understanding of UK politics, Whitehall and Westminster structures, and parliamentary procedure
- Proven ability to develop and deliver effective political strategies that influence policy or legislation
- Strong leadership and line management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop a team
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence in dealing with senior stakeholders
- Commercially minded with experience contributing to business development or growth
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities and maintain high standards under pressure
Desirable Attributes
- Sector expertise in areas such as energy, tech, infrastructure, health, financial services, or regulated markets
- Experience working across devolved administrations or local government
- Media or digital campaigning experience
- Existing network of political and industry contacts
- Degree or equivalent qualification in politics, public policy, communications, or a related field
