Account Director – Health PR - London - Competitive
Westminster Search is partnering with a leading Health PR agency to recruit a talented and strategic Account Director.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced PR professional to take on a senior leadership role within a mission-driven agency that specialises in healthcare communications and campaigns that improve lives.
The agency delivers high-impact work for clients across the health sector, including pharmaceutical companies, health charities, NHS organisations, and patient advocacy groups. The successful candidate will bring both sector expertise and creative leadership to help shape campaigns that inform, engage, and drive meaningful change.
The Role
As Account Director, you will lead a portfolio of health clients, delivering strategic oversight, high-quality campaign development, and strong team leadership. You will serve as the key point of contact for senior clients, ensuring that work is aligned with their organisational goals, regulatory requirements, and audience needs.
You will work closely with the senior leadership team to support business growth and ensure the agency maintains its reputation for excellence in healthcare communications.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and delivery of integrated PR strategies for clients across the health sector
- Act as a senior strategic adviser to clients, offering insights, guidance, and creative thinking
- Oversee day-to-day account management across multiple projects, ensuring quality, impact, and timeliness
- Build and maintain strong relationships with senior clients, healthcare professionals, patient groups, and media
- Ensure campaigns comply with industry regulations, including ABPI, and client approval processes
- Lead, mentor, and support junior team members to ensure a positive and high-performing team culture
- Contribute to new business development through proposals, pitches, and networking
- Monitor and evaluate campaign performance and use insights to inform strategy and reporting
- Stay abreast of health policy developments, media trends, and emerging communications techniques
- Collaborate across teams (creative, digital, medical writing, etc.) to deliver cohesive campaigns
Person Specification
Essential Experience & Skills
- Significant experience in healthcare or pharmaceutical PR, ideally in an agency setting
- Demonstrable success in managing health-related PR or communications campaigns
- Deep understanding of healthcare communications, including the regulatory environment (e.g. ABPI Code)
- Proven track record of leading client accounts and managing senior relationships
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distil complex information for diverse audiences
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience mentoring junior colleagues
- Commercially astute with experience managing budgets and contributing to agency growth
- Confidence in media engagement and handling sensitive or high-profile issues
Desirable Attributes
- Experience in patient advocacy, public health, or NHS communications
- Familiarity with digital health, social media, and integrated campaign delivery
- Understanding of the UK healthcare landscape and health policy environment
- Scientific background or experience working closely with medical writers or healthcare professionals
- Strong personal network within health, pharma, or public health communications
